13th November 2010

Here we are now on a farm outback of Oz, at Glenormiston north near Terang & Camperdown, and have service back, well Bevin did have hence the photo's . We have 4 options now, I am on Vodafone and he is on Optus, the laptop uses Virgin for internet and we bought a Telstra sim($2) for when others are no good but haven't activated that yet.

The farm here is not how you'd think, no brown grass- though am told it does go like that, but right now its 650scres of Taranaki green! Now one our farming friends actually hails from Taranaki, Rahotu no less and he has planted Taranaki grasses to get the farm up to speed over the last 4 years and has been hard yakka as he says its really a conversion, as when you buy a farm here often the land so worn out you have to start all over, but it looks great and yip they are milking 500 odd head for Fonterra here too.

Back to night before last.. we were in free camping area just off Great Ocean Road  in a peaceful spot and were so lucky to see 3 koalas in natural setting- a dad a mum & baby. Dad was down low and could get within 1.5 m of him for pix how cool is that? (mind you the noise he made in the night was quite something)

Kookaburras were flying down for food scraps…no we don't feed the wildlife people in mobile home next to us were. We woke in the morning to a very hot humid feel and a check on weather suggested we were in for thunderstorms so we along with the mobile homes packed up an hit road without brekky as rain can make unsealed roads hard to get out of..so off we headed again along Great Ocean Road & saw 12 Apostles (like our three sisters.and like them no longer the original number due to time and tide) and other stuff cool coastal formations such as Loch and something(forgotten) London Bridge, the Grotto. The weather held and we got here without getting wet. Warren took us on a tour round the farm which is as flat as a pancake and you can look across paddocks to its end, alien to most of us in NZ.

Woke this morning to a much cooler world, yesterday was hot, today I am cold again, nice to have the laptop sitting on my legs for warmth..and I have just said to myself the next time in town I am buying a hot water bottle, I don't do cold L And yeah I know I'll be more than eating those words but I hear even though it gets stinking hot during day at say Alice Springs at night it will drop to below zero and sorry can't do that so hottie here I come.

Lucky we are here with bikes under cover and a roof over our heads cos it's raining today , Bevin has been using Warren's workshop for making an extra piece on his bike to get the cell phone bracket a bit further under the windscreen, so I've been catching up on this

Tomorrow perhaps or day after we are going to head towards Adelaide more to another friends place in a place called Willalooka (between Keith and Naracoorte..something you will have to look up) Again you will find us meandering our way back to Melbourne to catch up with Bevin's dad and Wendy coming in on cruise ship near end of November before we make the push North to Sydney and the Eagles concert followed by Linkin Park.
