The Riders down Under are truly that right now on Aussies most southern tip and are camped on a beautiful park that sports many lovely walks to beautiful outlooks and gorgeous bays where rock formations are spectacular Last night saw us over in the next bay called Squeaky Beach(because the silica sand there squeaks when you walk on it) with an electrical storm booming close out at sea the colours looked spectacular and on track back to camp saw kangaroos and wombats out foraging at the close of day. We got to the 'Prom' as it affectionately called by locals last Friday.
Backing up a bit to Bairnsdale and last Thursday we rode our bike 90k's back up into hills to a we place called Dargo - lad at local bike shop had told us was a great ride that ends at a pub.. Wouldn't you know it it was Oaks day(spose that's how it's spelt) which is ladies day.. 4 days after Melbourne cup when the ladies all get dressed in their finery with their fascinators atop their heads(well no wonder we are called birds cos those things look like something an emu would have atop it head haha) sorry Carmel, Gab,you know I don't do that look but they all looked very glam at their special lunch. Left Bairnsdale Friday morn & rode to Sale then out to Ninety Mile Beach(hmm another thing they pinched aye?) Lovely- see Bevin in armchair :-)We then rode here- gorgeous though subject to extremely changeable weather(something our intrepid Kiwis are used to)There are 480 sites here but is not high season yet so you just ride in and choose one of the many sites tucked into trees. We were warned to put food in car as wombats have been known to shred tents to get food .. So what do you do on a bike well bread hangs from ceiling and other stuff well hidden in bags inside panniers but we did have a couple of visits last night from the wee hairy barrels and had to give them the boot out. We are staying another night as it's so lovely to do further exploration.
